Morphological study of the leaves of two European black poplar (Populus nigra L.) populations in Slovenia

چکیده
Background and Purpose: Conservation efforts across Europe and a substantial lack of information regarding the present status of black poplar (Populus nigra L.) in Slovenia led us to conduct this research. The objectives were to determine the presence of preserved native black poplar in Slovenia, to evaluate the variation within and between two selected populations, and to evaluate the condition of these populations, which is important for enabling their long-term gene pool conservation. Material and Methods: To determine the black poplar distribution, the national database of growing stock of tree species in sub-compartments was used. Species determination was based on standard determination keys and descriptors. To assess a variation, a morphological comparison of leaves from two black poplar populations from the Sava and Mura rivers was done, as well as a comparison with a Canadian poplar (Populus ́canadensis) clone. Material for analyses was taken from 38 trees, totalling 3811 leaves. Descriptive statistics, non parametric Mann-Whitney U-tests, discriminant analysis (DA) and principal components analysis (PCA) were used

Leaf Morphology Variation of Populus nigra L. in Natural Populations along the Rivers in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
Background and Purpose: The aim was to determine the morphological differences between the hairy type of European black poplar (Populus nigra subsp. caudina) and the typical type from the riparian forests populations as well as between the river systems. Hairy black poplar spreads in a mosaic pattern across the Submediterranean climatic type along the River Neretva and the typical European blac...
متن کاملStudy of Growth Function of Black Poplar (Populus Nigra) With Kermanshah and Zanjan Origin in Karaj Research Station
In order to evaluate the growth function of Populus nigra trees under homogeneous conditions, a total of 24 individuals of P. nigra (3 individuals per stand) were sampled from 8 artificial stands in Kermanshah province and 12 individuals of P. nigra (3 individuals per stand) were sampled from 4 artificial stands in Zanjan province. In order to assimilate environmental conditions, seedlings were...
Morphological traits genetically correlated with wood production have been targeted as an alternative to the indirect selection of Poplar trees for high biomass production. So in this study two Populus species (P. nigra and P. alba) growing in Kermanshah, Zanjan and Esfahan provinces were selected to investigate the relationship between various leaf morphological traits and growth character...
متن کاملGenetic and morphological differentiation in Populus nigra L.: isolation by colonization or isolation by adaptation?
Identifying processes underlying the genetic and morphological differences among populations is a central question of evolutionary biology. Forest trees typically contain high levels of neutral genetic variation, and genetic differences are often correlated with geographic distance between populations [isolation by distance (IBD)] or are due to historic vicariance events [isolation by colonizat...
متن کاملEfficient Agrobacterium-Mediated Transformation and Analysis of Transgenic Plants in Hybrid Black Poplar (Populus × euromericana Dode Guinier)
Black poplar (Populus× euramericana Dode Guinier) is an industrially important tree with broad applications in wood and paper, biofuel and cellulose-based industries as well as plant breeding programs and soil phytoremediation approaches. Here, we have focused on development of direct shoot regeneration and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation protocols using the in vitro internodal stem tissu...
